[ open ] Welcome to Chile, Cadets.
Characters: ALL.
Location: Valparaíso Shatterdome, Chile.
Date/Time: February 15th-28th.
Summary: The first shipment of recruits into the new Jaeger Academy program arrive. Some are staggered throughout the month, but they all have the same basic greeting. Here you are, there's where you sleep, here's what you wear, get going.
Additional Notes: See here for additional information. For information on the current weather, check out this link.
The Shatterdome didn't look futuristic, swatches of metal and concrete transforming a portion of the harbor into five enormous bays. Nevermind that only two were currently in use. The stark greys stand out against the colorful face of the city, a hulking monolith that's been carved into the face of the city that had once upon a century been termed the Jewel of the Pacific.
Note: Players are welcome to start their own interactions outside of the three main prompted scenarios. Go wild!

Jaeger Bay | another rock star arrives
Striker’s kind of the love of Chuck’s life.
Chuck's the youngest to ever enter the Academy, youngest to ever set foot in a Jaeger - sixteen, and he's piloting gigantic machines with his old man. He’s creating records just to to smash them up himself, and really? Chuck’s on top of the fucking world.
The Hansens arrived in Valparaíso and they immediately part ways, because – well, lets be honest, here. Outside the Drift, their relationship is nonexistent and Chuck doesn’t really have anything to say to his father in regards to anything other than their job.
Herc's off doing fuck knows what and Chuck's still in his drive suit, holding Max's leash while he inspects some microscopic scuff on Striker's foot. Do you approach? ]
no subject
You just get here?
no subject
He shakes himself out of it. ]
Yeah, mate -- you?
no subject
A little while back. Activation requires a lot of briefings, ya know?
no subject
[ Good. Chuck's pleased and glad that Yancy's attention seems mostly on Max for the time being, because his cheeks might be a little pink. Not every day Yancy Becket comes and says hi, and pets your dog. ]
Yeah, I got ya. Dad 'n I had a fuckin' pissload of em, real pain in the ass.
no subject
The language from the kid is surprising, however. Yancy quirks an eyebrow, but since he's still focused on Max it might not show. Maybe the kid liked to thumb his nose at manners when his father wasn't around. It's not exactly an unusual development in that age bracket. Yancy ignores it for now. Almost.]
A fuckin' pissload, that sounds about right.
no subject
..Er. A lot, I reckon. Probly about as man as you and Raleigh, I expect.
no subject
[Yancy nudges Max away from the goods again but doesn't stop petting him. From what he understood, Chuck wasn't actively piloting. Maybe they just wanted to prepare the kid for what his responsibilities would be like after his uncle retired? It makes sense, but it's probably a cramp in a 17 year old's style.]
Tough break.
no subject
Yeah.
[ retiring, sure. Chuck just knows he's assigned to Striker and it's gonna be with Herc and it's gonna be soon. Chuck isn't asking questions, he'll find out in the Drift. ]
Suppose it could've been worse.
no subject
It can be. Sometimes there are translators involved.
no subject
Yeah?
[ He rocks back on his heels. ]
Chilean, or--?
no subject
[Don't sweat it, kid. You're through the tough stuff here already.]
Interesting language. Didn't really get the hang of it before they sent us home, but the food was something else.
I am assuming Max is on his leash, ping me if I'm wrong.
She kneels on the ground, pressed slacks be damned, trying to catch the dog's eye. ]
I didn't know they allowed you in a place like this.
he is, yep!
Well, suppose they make concessions for mascots.
no subject
Do they? Do they now? [ Whose the cute little mascot? You are, yes you are. ]
no subject
[ Chuck snorts and Max comes closer, bumps her leg with his furry head. ]
Was kind of a condition. Couldn't leave this handsome man back in Sydney.
I'm sorry
"Aussie Aussie Aussie - sir," she adds hurriedly. With New Zealand latching onto the Aussies as the next best thing to a Kiwi Ranger, she knows he's younger than her, so it feels weird to be calling him 'sir' after most people who outranked her in Air Cadets had been older. "Hey, um, my brother thinks you're really cool and asked me to get your autograph if you got posted here, so, sir, would you mind...?"
She throws up a salute for good measure, crisp and New Zealand Air Force trained. Yeah, that's a Kiwi accent coming out of her mouth, but as far as she's concerned, Chuck is the sheepshagger, her brother's admiration of him be damned.
no subject
"Got something for me to sign?"
And he is not a sheepshagger, thank you very much.
no subject
"It's for Rawiri, sir," she said, ready to spell it out if it looks like she'll need to. "Thank you, sir, he'll be stoked."
no subject
Chuck spells it out, just in case.
"R-a-w-i-r-i." He glances up at her, yeah -- cause that's a bit of a strange name.
"That right, yeah?"
no subject
She considers herself lucky to have one of the more common names among her siblings, though it's still been subject to some creative spellings over the years.
no subject
Chuck grins at her.
"Well, 's not a very common name. Guess I could see that happening." Chuck's lucky. It's hard to fuck his name up.
"Here y'go." He's passing it back, pleased beyond words this just happened to him. She just made his day.
no subject
"Thank you, sir," she says again. "He's in for a shock. We didn't think youse would be stationed here."
She didn't keep up with the Ranger gossip as much as her brother did (and tended to tune him out), preferring instead to try and find out more about the Jumphawk pilots; she'd been expecting to encounter some of the South and Central American Rangers rather than Australasia's best defence.
(A second later, she realizes 'youse' might be too informal, but manages to keep her reaction to her smile going a little wobbly for a moment. Ugh, English needs korua.)
