[ open ] Welcome to Chile, Cadets.

Characters: ALL.
Location: Valparaíso Shatterdome, Chile.
Date/Time: February 15th-28th.
Summary: The first shipment of recruits into the new Jaeger Academy program arrive. Some are staggered throughout the month, but they all have the same basic greeting. Here you are, there's where you sleep, here's what you wear, get going.
Additional Notes: See here for additional information. For information on the current weather, check out this link.

The Shatterdome didn't look futuristic, swatches of metal and concrete transforming a portion of the harbor into five enormous bays. Nevermind that only two were currently in use. The stark greys stand out against the colorful face of the city, a hulking monolith that's been carved into the face of the city that had once upon a century been termed the Jewel of the Pacific.

Note: Players are welcome to start their own interactions outside of the three main prompted scenarios. Go wild!

She can recognize somebody who's not used to English. So won't call him out on it though, because why make somebody embarrassed about something they're not used to do it. Besides, she's pretty sure there are required English classes for people who aren't great at the language. It's probably one of the more painful ones to learn anyway.

"Nice to meet you too. Ready for three months of drills and getting run around?"

"Yes! I am looking forward to getting started!"

He's surprised how dour some of the other cadets seem to be about the prospect. Well, about the whole situation, really. He'd assumed that anyone who would sign up would actually want to be here and be looking forward to beginning their training, but that doesn't seem to be the case and he's a bit disappointed in them. He's been so excited that he hasn't even slept properly since the night before the night before his flight left Narita.

"Where did you come here from?"

She smiles at him. Yeah, this guy gets it. It's amazing to be accepted into the program. What's cooler than that though, is realizing that one day they'll be the ones to pilot Jaegers. There's nothing cooler than that. Not to mention being able to meet the Rangers.

"I'm from New York. What about you?"

It's not a simple answer. He's been living in Tachikawa for the last nine years, but he's unsure if she'll know where that is and he's reluctant to bring up where he lived prior to that because it's an unpleasant topic to discuss. With that in mind, he gives the answer she's probably expecting anyway.

"I live in Tokyo." He means the Tama area of the prefecture, but it's easiest just to leave it at that. "So we are both used to cities. Have you traveled before?"

He's never been more relived to have memorized sample conversations.

"Not a whole lot." Considering the monsters that started rising out of the sea, traveling hasn't been a top priority for her family. Or really going anywhere near the Pacific. Japan though, that's an island in the Pacific, it's only a little bit better than Hawaii. At least they're not right in the middle of it.

"What about you? First time out of Japan?"

"Yes. It has been very difficult to leave." His aunt and uncle were very much of the "better safe than sorry" mentality, and he'd always been quite content to go along with it. If there had been a way to train to pilot a Jaeger that would have allowed him to stay in Japan, he would definitely have opted for that instead of traveling all the way to Chile.

"My home was not affected by the attack in 2016, but there is still a lot of fear. That is why I want to train here." Tachikawa was far enough inland to escape Onibaba's attack and had had more than enough time to evacuate, but it was still a tense, terrifying time and not easily forgotten.
